Province Bans Criticism of Climate Policy, Introduces Mandatory Optimism Training
Halifax, Nova Scotia — The Province of Nova Scotia today announced new restrictions on public discussion of its climate policies, including its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Under the Climate Confidence and Compliance Initiative (CCCI), all critical remarks about government climate action are now prohibited. Citizens, media outlets, and advocacy groups must express only positive or neutral opinions when discussing provincial climate targets.
“Climate change is scary enough without negative comments,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Atmospheric Positivity. “By banning criticism, we can ensure the public hears nothing but optimism. This is the most sustainable mood Nova Scotians can have.”
Prohibited Activities
Effective immediately, the following are banned:
- Suggesting that Nova Scotia’s climate targets are unrealistic, unaffordable, or delayed.
- Referring to net-zero as “net-fantasy” or “net-nothing.”
- Publishing cost estimates for climate plans that exceed $0.
- Rolling your eyes in public meetings when climate officials are speaking.
Enforcement
Violations of the Climate Confidence and Compliance Initiative may result in fines of $2,050 per offence, symbolizing the net-zero target year of 2050.
Repeat offenders will be required to attend a mandatory program entitled:
“Optimism Training: How to Smile Through Rising Seas.”
Revenue from fines will be reinvested into:
- Expanding the Positive Feedback Division at the Department,
- Subsidizing climate-themed motivational posters for government offices, and
- Planting sunflowers in roundabouts to symbolize resilience.
Reminder to the Public
Nova Scotians are reminded that climate change is a serious threat, but so is negativity. Officials stress that optimism is now a legal requirement in all climate conversations.
“By eliminating criticism, Nova Scotia is leading the world not just in climate action, but in climate attitude,” said the spokesperson.
