Province Issues Annual Reminder That Winter Exists — Again.
Nova Scotia Department of Seasonal Reality Checks (NSDSRC)
“Keeping expectations low since Confederation.”
❄️ OFFICIAL WINTER NOTICE #0047-B
Issued by Acting Deputy Assistant Minister Gordie “Black Ice” Boudreau,
with spokesperson Sheila Driftsworth, and communications intern Kyle “No Winter Tires” McFlurry.
🚨 Winter Is Back: Please Don’t Panic or Accelerate
The NSDSRC would like to remind Nova Scotians that winter conditions will return this year, despite strong opposition from several Facebook commenters and at least one Dartmouth guy who insists “it wasn’t like this in the ’80s.”
“Every year we issue this notice,” says Minister Boudreau. “And every year someone drives into a snowbank like it’s a surprise party.”
🛠️ What the Province Is Doing
NSDSRC is deploying:
- 400 snowplows, expertly operated by men named Wayne, Wade, or Wally,
- 24/7 crews, fuelled by Tim Hortons and spite,
- Zero bike lanes, because ‘Snowplows don’t corner well at 90 degrees,’ explains Infrastructure Analyst Patty Meltzer.
🧊 What You Should Do
The Department strongly encourages motorists to:
- Put on winter tires — “Preferably before your first 360-degree spin,” notes Safety Officer Earl Slippage.
- Clear off your entire car — not just a single porthole for your face.
- Reduce speed — unless you’re trying to meet our annual ditch occupancy quota.
🧂 Budget-Friendly Measures
“Look, we can only afford what we can afford,” says Fiscal Director Linda Saltworth.
“So no, we’re not installing heated roads, Wi-Fi plows, or taxpayer-funded vehicle warmers shaped like lobsters. You get salt, plows, and a prayer. That’s it.”
🚗 Closing Thoughts From NSDSRC
“Winter isn’t optional,” remarks spokesperson Sheila Driftsworth.
“We’ve checked. Meteorology won’t negotiate.”
If you insist on driving like you’re auditioning for Fast & Furious: Cape Breton Bumps, please pre-register with the Provincial Ditch Management Office, staffed exclusively by volunteers named “Uncle Rick.”
